Meet Tae

I am Dionte Gray, a celebrity hairstylists, also known as "Arrogant Tae" or "Frontal King." I've been doing hair since I was 11 years old and a weave master for seven years! I've always known hair was for me because of my obsession for the art of hair.  I am so intrigued with the well-being of women. The first thing I look at when I encounter a woman is her hair and skin. I basically grew up in the salon my entire childhood. I was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. I began watching my aunt, my mom, and close cousins doing hair so I caught on at a very young age! I did all my mother's friends' children hair, my classmates, my family, and also my friends! Right after I graduated high school I enrolled into Paul Mitchell. I felt it was necessary for me to attend Paul Mitchell so that I could get exposed to the different hair types there are. I  also wanted to step out of my comfort zone.

I've always dreamed of becoming a celebrity hair stylist and having the opportunity to work on movie sets. So I told myself I have to learn everything before I can become that! Attending Paul Mitchell took my skills to the next level! I learned how to layer hair, razor cut, color, round brush, literally everything I needed to know and learned a lot that I did not know!

Once I was done with school I stared working in my first salon in downtown Chicago. I had only been in the salon for a year and my name had already started cycling around the city. People were impressed with how I was this young male slaying weaves, cuts, and colors. This made me very proud of myself and my hard work. I was bussing my ass in the salon every single day from 9am until 4am. I was very dedicated to my work and it paid off. One day Porsche Williams, reality TV star of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, came to the city for the Steve Harvey Show. She made a post saying how she needed a hairstylist. I'm so thankful for  social media and the role it plays in the world today. Literally everyone on Instagram started to tag me on her post. I felt so honored and blessed to even be recognized by so many people. I prayed and I prayed that Porsche would reach out to me because I really wanted to work with her. I admire her from the show and her overall personality. That night I got a call from her manager saying she needed my service. Those were one of the best days of my life! It felt like my dreams were coming true and God answered my prayers. When I met Porsche she was so sweet and very outgoing. Seeing my work on the Steve Harvey Show really opened my eyes and was sort of a sign of the journey I was about to embark.

My next destination was Atlanta. I always had plans to move to Atlanta so a few months later I ended up moving to Atlanta. I picked up and left everything! I left my family, my clients, and my friends. Once I got to Atlanta I was so afraid because I didn't know what was next. I didn't know where I would live. I didn't know where to meet people and most importantly I didn't know how to build up my clientele.  I started reaching out to people and getting support from family and friends. They helped me build up my clientele and within a month of living in Atlanta everything started to fall in place!

My brand started to grow, I started working with the artist, K Michelle, a lot of socialites, public figures, rappers' wives, and house wives!!My name and my brand started floating around Atlanta and around different states. Then, just like that, my life changed and I became one of the most well known hairstylist!  I'm blessed and thankful for everything and everyone that has supported me and my journey. Things haven't always been easy but I thank God everyday for my faith! One piece of encouragement I have for people is to follow your dreams and stay positive. You have to have faith and believe in yourself. You have to stay humble.
